“Bobby” Berkowitz, as he is known in the US, is ostensibly an
Israeli ex-pat living in NYC where he operates a wine import business
specializing in Israeli wines. He is actually an agent of Mossad, the Israeli secret
police. His cover permits him unquestioned travel to Israel, France, Germany
and other wine producing regions.
When you first meet Bobby what strikes you are his eyes—small penetrating
eyes. When he turns his gaze upon you, the experience is like being penetrated
by a laser. Yet his stare is cold and the rest of his affect is impassive. Even
if you never learn his true profession, you have no difficulty believing that
he is willing to kill with cold dispatch.
Bobby met Rachel in a small town outside of Beersheba, when he
was an officer in the Israeli Army and she was working for a chemical company doing
research in the Negev.
See “Rachel Backstory” for some possibilities.
